Many self-defense situations occur at night or in low light. Our next match will have a flashlight stage. Although we can not produce a true low light stage, we will be expected to navigate the stage utilizing proper cover, but also utilizing some type of a flashlight technique.
Many of us probably have not dedicated much or any time to developing shooting in conjunction with a flashlight, so this should “shine a little light on the subject” and at least give everyone the opportunity to utilize some techniques.
I would suggest that you take your UNLOADED weapon and do a little practicing with at least one and preferably more of the flashlight techniques prior to the match. If you do not own a tactical flashlight, you can construct a fake flashlight with about 5″ of 1/2 inch pvc pipe and put a pvc end cap on it.
For our match, we will be supplying the tactical light.
Also, The Gun Shop IDPA located in Leesburg (indoor range) has low light stages in their monthly matches if you want to experience the real deal. The Gun Shop IDPA monthly matches are on the 4th Sunday of each month starting at 9AM.
Below are 2 links offering some instruction on flashlight techniques. You may also google it for yourself if you want more.
Hope to see you all next month,
Mark Kraemer
