The concept of IDPA is the use of practical equipment to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios using practical handguns and holsters that are suitable for self-defense use. The optimal words here are “practical equipment”. It’s the equipment like holsters and ammo carriers that you use every day (except where safety comes into play).
IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME SHOOTER
We give first time shooters a lot of leeway on equipment at their first match. A new shooter should bring:
- 9mm/.38 cal or larger handgun with holster. (See club holster restrictions.)
- Minimum of 3 magazines – 2 for ammunition carrier and 1 for pistol
- Concealment garment – could be vest, oversized shirt or pullover that would conceal pistol and ammunition carriers
- Eye and ear protection (mandatory)
Check out this post to see what our Safety Officers look for when doing an equipment check.
Please refer to the current 2017 IDPA Rule Book for allowed equipment and restrictions.
